Sewing Is A Great Kids Craft

Sewing Is A Great Kids Craft

I just talked to my bi-polar ADD grandson on the phone. He loves to come to Gammy's house to do kids crafts and make "stuff". He really enjoys sewing projects the best. I taught all the kids how to sew and operate the sewing machine at a very early age.

Some of the kids are grown up now, but they still treasure the things they made. In fact, a number of stuffed animals and quilts they designed and stitched accompany them to college and help to decorate their dorms. They are their special sewing projects and happy memories for all of us.

I hope you can find something to do with your kids that will create fond memories for you, too.

It just makes sense!

To Your Sewing Success,
Marian

Sewing is a great kids craft. Kids love to show what they accomplished and are very proud of their creations.

Whether it is sewing or any other craft that you teach or share with your child, even if it is coloring, drawing, cutting and pasting, it is time well spent.

If you want to really spend some quality time with your kids and grandkids, turn off the TV and do some kids crafts with them. It is great therapy for all ages. The added bonus is the treasured memories that you create for both of you.

Whether you are planning a kid party or homeschooling, babysitting, teach a Sunday School Class or just want to keep the kids entertained, there are a number of resources to help you be successful and make a real "hit" with the kids.

I have listed a few on my website at 1st Step To Sewing Success for your convenience. You can check them out there.

Sewing and kids crafts are a sure-fired way to bond with your kids. Sew or make something together today! Have fun!

Sewing and Recycling Sheets Into Beautiful Home Dec Items

Sewing Friends:

Sewing is so rewarding. I love to hear about your sewing projects. Thanks for sharing. I hope my sewing tips are helpful. Send in your tips so we can all
learn from each other.

Today was a good sewing day for me. I spent the day sewing a tailored valance for our friend's office double window in their new home. The valance looks almost like a cornice board, but it hangs free on a wide rod. I didn't want any stitching to show on the outside of the valance, so I am trying out a new idea I have for the rod pocket. I'll let you know if it works out.

I used faux suede for the valance and rayon braided cording at the top and bottom for an elegant, yet masculine look. Three inverted pleats add some interest. The center pleat helps to hide the center seam.

I wanted to line it, but, I didn't have any drapery lining fabric on hand, so . . .

It just makes sense!

1st Step To Sewing Success

Sewing and recycling sheets into beautiful home dec items is a great way to redecorate on a shoe string budget! And, it is really fun and easy to do.

When you are in the middle of sewing a valance or drapery and you decide to line it, but nothing is suitable or large enough in your "stash," use the next best thing . . . an old sheet. There is plenty of fabric in a sheet and you are probably never going to use that spotted or torn or stretched out old sheet as a sheet anymore anyway.

Think about recycling some of your old sheets for linings and underlinings, etc. Use old sheets to sew lots of things from pajamas and skirts to Halloween costumes and ironing board covers. They are a great source of extra wide fabric and ideal for a lot of home decorating projects too.

In fact, after the kids go back to school, why not redecorate your bedroom and bathroom with some new coordinated decorator sheets you can get when they go on sale. Sew a new shower curtain, window curtains, a table cover, throw pillows, shams, a duvet cover, bed skirt, lampshade cover, tissue box cover, etc. Who knows, you might even want to cover the seat on a vanity stool and decorate some towels with bands of fabric to help tie everything together. The possibilities are endless. These are quick and easy sewing projects. So, try it!

Speaking of kids, how about using sheets to decorate the college kids' dorm rooms? Don't forget! They always need laundry bags! The guys might love a sports theme.

Expecting a baby? Sew up nursery room items for the new little one. Let the toddlers, juveniles, and teens choose their own themes for their rooms. They love it!

Get creative and sew up some fun!

It just makes sense!

Back To Writing About Sewing Very Soon

Hi Sewing Friends:

Still sorting out the technical mess, but things are beginning to get better. Hopefully, I can get back to writing about sewing for you very soon.

I have a lot more sewing tips and sewing projects for you.

Seems like a lot of you made the shoe bags for Father's Day gifts. Surely hope your fellow appreciates them. They really do come in handy. Be sure and make some for yourself and the kids, too.

To Your Sewing Success,

Marian

PS: Let me remind you again that if you sent me an email and I haven't responded, please resend it. It is probably one of those that got lost in "outer space". Thanks for your patience while we "fix" things.

Sewing Success Requests Response

Dear Sewing Blog Friends:

Sewing questions and orders are beginning to come in again. Some folks have tried to contact me when their original messages failed.

I learned late today that my emails that were blocked by my ISP when they made an unannounced system change can never be recovered. I feel terrible about that. I'm sure that some of you are wondering why I don't respond to your sewing questions.

I can only tell you that I'm sorry this happened. I wish I had been given some notice before the ISP made a system change and lost all of those emails.

However, if you read this, perhaps you will try again and resubmit your requests or orders. Please contact me if you have had a problem.

Make sure that your ISPs are not blocking email from 1ststeptosewingsuccess.com.
Check your "blocked mail" or "spam" box to see if there is a message from us and correct our status so you can receive our emails, especially if you bought one of our ebooks or signed up for our newsletter.

Hoping for better days!

To Your Sewing and Fitting Success,

Marian Lewis

Sewing Success Email and Blog Problems

Dear Sewing Blog Friends:

What a nightmare this has been. I couldn't understand why I wasn't getting my email messages from my server. I started getting phone calls asking me why I didn't respond.

I worked until the wee hours the last few days pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was going on. I thought it must have been something I did. After a ton of frustration and near tears, I found out that my ISP blocked all my emails from my web server thinking they were "spam". Then, when I contacted them, they gave me some "techie" thing to do that I didn't undrstand. I told them I was a grandmother, not a technician!

They changed their "system" and didn't tell anyone of the change. That simply wasn't nice! I am so upset! I don't know if I can retrieve the "blocked" emails now. Got someone checking on that for me now.

I don't need this aggrevation. It takes away from my writing and sewing time.

So, if you tried to contact me in the last few days and I didn't respond, please try again. Hopefully, everything will work again until the next "system" change.

On top of all that, my blog was out of commission for a while, too. I am still working on that trying to make it better. We will see.

To Your Sewing Success,
Marian

Sew News Article On Fitting The Senior Figure

Sewing friends from everywhere responded to my "Fitting The Senior Figure" article in the May 2006 issue of Sew News. I hope you saw it. There is a lot of really good information there.

How exciting for me to hear from sewing folks so far away. It was really cool to hear from some of my "old" students from many years ago. They are still sewing and using the techniques that I taught. That's great!

I made a number of new sewing friends, too. People from all over the world sew and make their own clothes. We share a bond sharing sewing tips and learning more about how to sew.

It seems we all have the same problems whether we have been sewing a long time or just learning how to sew. That problem is "fitting", and especially, "fitting pants".

I truly hope I can help solve some of the problems with my sewing and fitting techniques.

I love getting feedback from everyone - positive or negative. There is always room for improvement, but it really helps to hear about your successes, too. Please share your comments here.

To Your Sewing and Fitting Success,

Marian

PS: As you can see, I'm trying some new "techie stuff" here to hopefully make this blog more useful to everyone. We will see how it works. Got lots more to learn. Gammy is really slow at this. Have patience!
